I have some thoughts on Ciri and Yen’s reunion at Kaer Morhen.
So, like most people, I was upset about how the reunion seemed somewhat “meh” and thought “jeez, CDPR really didn’t emphasize the importance of their relationship.” Compared to Ciri jumping into Vesemir’s arms, I thought maybe they just didn’t want to make Yen too important.
BUT THEN IT HIT ME: I was reading “The Lady of the Lake,” and realized this is exactly how Ciri and Yen would reunite except in this case, CDPR went the extra mile and changed it up in a good way.
When Geralt and Yen meet up with Ciri after she had gone to give herself up to Vilgefortz to free Yen, the first thing Yennefer does is remind Ciri to stand up straight and fix her hair.
AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS IN WILD HUNT. Ciri collects herself, suddenly gets all serious, and acts as if she’s about to fix her hair until Yen runs up to her and hugs her.
When Yennefer looks Ciri over and tells her she’s grown beautiful, instead of telling her to fix her face or hair or body language, that’s when you see a look of happiness/shock on Ciri’s face AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH. Instead of being her usual calm and collected self, Yennefer acts so out of character because she’s so damn happy to see her daughter safe and sound and I absolutely love CRPR for doing this.
